About the Author: Audrey Niffenegger

Audrey Niffenegger was born in 1963 in the idyllic hamlet of South Haven, Michigan. Her family moved to Evanston, Illinois when she was little; she has lived in or near Chicago for most of her life.

Audrey trained as a visual artist at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and received her MFA from Northwestern University's Department of Art Theory and Practice in 1991. She has exhibited her artist's books, prints, paintings, drawings and comics at Printworks Gallery in Chicago since 1987.

Her first books were printed and bound by hand in editions of ten. Two of these have since been commercially published by Harry N. Abrams: The Adventuress and The Three Incestuous Sisters.

In 1997 Audrey had an idea for a book about a time traveler and his wife. She originally imagined making it as a graphic novel, but eventually realised that it is very difficult to represent sudden time shifts with still images. She began to work on the project as a novel, and published The Time Traveler's Wife in 2003 with the independent publisher MacAdam/Cage. It was an international best seller, and has since been made into a movie.

Audrey's second novel, Her Fearful Symmetry, was published in 2009. In 2008 she made a serialised graphic novel for the London Guardian, The Night Bookmobile, which was published in book form in September, 2010. She is currently working on her third novel, The Chinchilla Girl in Exile.

A heart touching, amazing tale of love, pain and an inability to stay in the present tense... A fantastically thought out novel, I have never found a book that switches character's perspectives so naturally and effectively.The Time Traveller's Wife packs a tear jerking punch that will leave you raving about it for months! A definite must read!

Much more than a love story, The Time Traveler's Wife is destined to become a classic. Niffenegger masterfully weaves back and forth through time from the perspectives of both Clare and Henry, whose lives have been entwined since Clare was 6 and Henry 36. As Henry slips uncontrollably back and forth through time, Clare becomes not only his anchor but his true love - the one to whom he always returns. Very cleverly and intricately structured, with strong and believable characters, it is impossible not to be drawn in and carried along in this moving and poignant tale.

This book was lent to me by a friend. It was nothing like I imagined. Its beautiful, funny, interesting and it made me cry, really cry. It stayed with me for many weeks after until eventually I had to go and buy my own copy. It's one of my favourites. Wonderful, wonderful book.

This is one of my favourite books of all times. Poignant, romantic, full of gob-smacking surprises and an ending that left me gasping. Have your tissues at hand and buckle up for an amazing ride. I have loaned it to both males and females and it was enjoyed by all. A book that you will want to keep on your bookshelf and one that improves with each read. Brilliant!
