Emma is like every girl in the world. She has a few little secrets.
Secrets from her mother:
1. I lost my virginity in the spare bedroom to Danny Nussbaum while Mum and Dad were downstairs watching Ben Hur.
. . . From her boyfriend:
2. I'm a size twelve. Not a size eight, like Connor thinks.
3. I've always thought Connor looks a bit like Ken. As in Barbie and Ken.
. . . From her colleagues:
4. When Artemis really annoys me, I feed her plant orange juice. (Which is pretty much every day)
5. It was me who jammed the copier that time. In fact, all the times.
. . . Secrets she wouldn't share with anyone in the world:
6. My G string is hurting me.
7. I faked my Maths GCSE grade on my CV.
8. I have no idea what NATO stands for. Or even what it is . . .
. . . Until she spills them all to a stranger on a plane. At least, she thought he was a stranger . . .

Educated at Putney High School and New College, Oxford, she worked as a financial journalist before turning to fiction. She is best known for writing the Shopaholic novels series of chick-lit novels, which focus on the misadventures of Becky Bloomwood, a financial journalist who cannot manage her own finances. The series focuses on her obsession with shopping and its resulting complications for her life.
The first two Shopaholic books were adapted into a film and released in February 2009, with Isla Fisher playing Becky and Hugh Dancy as Luke Brandon.
Her latest novel under the name Sophie Kinsella will be published in 2009 and is set to be called Twenties Girl.

Reviews of Can You Keep A Secret? by Sophie Kinsella
Can You Keep A Secret? Reviewed by Anonymous, 12/12/2009 Like Sophie Kinsella's other chick lit efforts, Can You Keep A Secret? is warm, funny and easy to digest. It's perfect holiday reading material or just a nice story to help you unwind and escape at the end of a long day. But once you go along for the ride, this book is hard to put down.
The main character comes off a little irritating to begin with (Hello?! Earth to Emma: Stop telling white lies and letting them spiral out of control. Then you might be happier. While you're at it, grow a backbone and stand up for yourself from time to time). But as you read on she becomes endearing and there is genuine empathy to be had for her what with the obnoxious jerks she has for family members and workmates.
It eventuates that Emma's character arc is supposed to be from people pleaser to woman who realises she need only satisfy her desires'. Or in other words, the message is be true to yourself. It may be clich but Can You Keep A Secret? is a lot of fun. Fans of chick lit will love it. As for everyone else, well, they might just have to read something else.
