Reviews of Surgeon by Tess Gerritsen
Solid story of sordid crime Reviewed by Anonymous, 24/12/2009 This was the first Tess Gerritsen book I've read. I'm not a big reader of crime novels, but I do like them from time to time. I thought this one sounded good, and it was. I would try other Tess Gerritsen novels in future.
In The Surgeon, Gerritsen offers the point of view of various key characters: two of the detectives on the case, a long-suffering victim/survivor and the killer himself. Providing such all-encompassing insights sucks much of the mystery and suspense out of the story leaving not a lot to be guessed at, namely the killer's identity. Nonetheless, the book can keep you interested until the very end, mostly thanks to having such well-fleshed out characters.
This is well-written crime fiction. There is nothing particularly exceptional about The Surgeon, but it is recommended for fans of the crime genre or for those (like me) wanting to read something else for a change.
