P D James is an English author. mostly of murder mysteries. Her full name is Phyllis Dorothy James White. She always has a dictionary and a thesaurus, a stack of lined A4 paper and several black ball point pens on her desk. When asked what her 'favourite weapon' was, she replied "none", and went on to explain that elderly ladies, however murderous, and unlikely in the UK to have access to guns. It is with the same realism and preciseness that her novels are written.
She worked in the British civil service for 30 years, including the Police and Criminal Law Department of Great Britain's Home Office. In 2000 she turned 80 and published her autibiography, Time To Be In Earnest, and was created Baroness James of Holland Park in 1991. She lives in London and Oxford.
