Bringing the Body to the Stage and Screen - Excellent for actors and teachers
Reviewed by Anonymous, 14/06/2012

This book is a very helpful manual for actors working alone or for teachers to use as a complete movement curriculum. There are many useful - and wonderfully illustrated - exercises for beginners to intermediate performers who want to develop or improve their movement skills and understanding of the many styles of movement. The dozen interviews are very informative and interesting, each artist discussing how movement is part of their work as actor, director, or puppeteer. I found the lists or international schools where you can study movement or mask work to be invaluable. Finally I loved the brief synopses of scenes from well-known plays because it saves be from sorting through literature for my students to improvise scenes paying special attention to the physical movement, rather than the text. All in all, this is a very sound investment for anyone who wants to know more about the practice and theory and the importance of movement for actors.
