Kerry Greenwood was born in the Melbourne suburb of Footscray and still lives there. She has written a number of plays, including 'The Troubadors' with Stephen D'Arcy, and worked as a director, producer, folk singer and costume maker. Her first Phryne Fisher mystery was published in 1989 and she has written over seven novels featuring this intrepid heroine.
When she is not writing she is a locum solicitor for the Legal Aid Commission and unpaid curator of a menagerie that includes four cats, and a duck called Son of Quark. She has no children and lives with a registered wizard.

Reviews of A Phryne Fisher Mystery 17: Murder on a Midsummer Night by Kerry Greenwood
Phryne turns 29 and solves another mystery Reviewed by Carol, 12/12/2008 This is the latest in the series of Phryne Fisher mysteries. As always, it's more about the style than the plot and the style is there in buckets. I love the descriptions of live in Melbourne in the late '20s. The murder is curiously disinteresting, perhaps because we never met the victim and though he is described extensively, he never achieves a sympathetic character. The usual characters weave their way through the book, Phryne, her two adopted daughters, her lover Lin Chung makes a welcome but brief return, her pets and various acquaintances from past books. All in all, a reasonable read. Not one of the best of the series but enough to keep me waiting until the next one.
