'Native Plants Of Northern Australia' covers a broad geographical region, from the Joseph Bonaparte Gulf to the Gulf of Carpentaria, and includes such unique features as Kakadu National Park and Katherine Gorge. Arnhem Land, with its spectacular plateau, occupies a large portion of this raw landscape. The region is dominated by the dramatic climate of the wet-dry monsoon tropics. More than 90% of the annual rainfall falls from November to March. May to September marks the winter dry season, while April and October are transitional periods. Temperatures are high throughout the year. The plants of this region come from arid areas, sandstone country, lush monsoon forest, wetlands and mangroves.
