What do old-timers like Frank Row, Paddy Moran, Chris McKivat, Jimmy Flynn and Wakka Walker have in common with modern rugby legends in John Eales, George Gregan, Phil Kearns, Jason Little and Tim Horan? They have all captained Wallaby test teams.

This book profiles all 72 players to have led Wallaby test teams onto the arena between 1899 and 2004.

Some have had long careers, some have been meteoric and others have represented their country over a medium term. Several have played more than 100 matches in Australia's colours, others have only run out a handful of times. Some have been successful, some not. Some have been lucky and others have had misfortune as a constant companion. Some have been talkers and others preferred to do their leading by example.

Some have led the Wallabies at a young ages, others have been veterans. many of those who led New south Wales in matches during the 1920s died without knowing they would be enshrined in that special place reserved for international sporting leaders, as the matches were only raised to test status in 1986.

One thing all had in large quantities was the necessary fortitude to lead a sporting team into the toughest battles. Each was a strong personality in addition to being a top-line player and all had the total support of their fellows.
