This year a third of all Australian babies will be born by caesarean and this figure rises to 40% for those babies born in a private hospital to mothers aged between 35-39.
Author Michelle Hamer says we are in danger of becoming McMothers as we strive for more control in the birthing suite and become increasingly intolerant of risk.
'Delivery by Appointment' looks at the rising trend of birth by caesarean, offering a balanced approach to the pros and cons. It features stories from mums who have had caesareans, expert opinions from midwives and doctors and answers to the questions women want to know, including:
When is a caesarean absolutely necessary?
What happens on the operating table?
What will it feel like?
Is a vaginal birth possible after a caesarean?
What will the impact be on the baby and mother?
How will I feel after the operation?
