Anthony Morgan and the 95th Regiment arrive in Bombay as the Indian Mutiny begins. And when the 95th is joined by a group of Indian soldiers, they are not at all happy about having potential rebels in their midst. But, despite feuds with fellow officers, ill-judged adventures with local girls and fear of the expanding activities of the violent mutineers, Morgan's company develops into a strong fighting force.
Further north, a British and Bengal force has been attacked by mutineers and most of the British garrison slaughtered. The few who survived are now prepared to use all their force against the rebels. Morgan and his regiment are sent to the rescue, supported by loyal Indians armed still with bow, arrows and blowpipes, against the mutineers' poisoned spears and deadly mines. Morgan must become a real leader of determination and strength if he and his men are to survive.
They find themselves in a city controlled by the Rani of Jhansi, a woman notorious to some, and a heroine to many. Against orders, Morgan smuggles himself into the besieged city and gains vital intelligence that will help them in their final stand to take back the city.
