This book follows the success of the author's first book 'Pure Breed Poultry Raising', from which there was strong feedback showing the need for a book dealing specifically with the breeding of individual breeds of poultry found in Australia. In response to this feedback, the author has used his own knowledge, extensive research and long hours of discussion with many specialist breeders to draw together material for this book. His considerable teaching experience has been used to organise this vast amount of material in a compact but thorough presentation of the topic.

Each breed dealt with is treated in a consistent fashion of relevant breed history, positive features to look for, negative features to avoid and selected breeding hints. This is backed up with a silhouette outline of both the male and female to establish clearly in the reader's mind the desired type for each breed. The book has many photographs to impress a breed's appearance on the reader.

The material covered will provide essential reading for the beginner or novice who is often left confused by the wide diversity of opinion that exists on many breeds and will prove invaluable for breed selection. Likewise, the book will assist the established fancier who wishes to change a new breed as they will be able to make a more informed breed choice. The book's contents will allow established poultry fanciers an opportunity to have more informed discussions with fellow fanciers, particularly on the subject of breeds they themselves do not keep.

For the agriculture teacher, the book illustrates the diversity of breeds, will assist with school breeding programs and better equip them to present their students' poultry in the show pen.
