Readers first encountered Tobias Eaton as "Four" in Divergent. His voice is an integral part of Allegiant. Readers will find more of this charismatic character's backstory told from his own perspective in Four: A Divergent Collection.
When read together, these long narrative pieces illuminate the defining moments in Tobias Eaton's life. The first three pieces in this volume - "The Transfer," "The Initiate," and "The Son" - follow Tobias's transfer from Abnegation to Dauntless, his Dauntless initiation, and the first clues that a foul plan is brewing in the leadership of two factions. The fourth story, "The Traitor," runs parallel with the events of Divergent, giving readers a glimpse into the decisions of loyalty - and love - that Tobias makes in the weeks after he meets Tris Prior. Exclusive scenes included!

It’s been a while since I read the "Divergent" trilogy and it felt good to get back into the Roth mindset – particularly considering how traumatizing the end of "Allegiant" was… "Four" answered a lot of unasked questions, and certainly helped my understanding of him as a character – which, I suppose, is the point. Not only that, but I obtained a deeper understanding and appreciation for Amar, Zeke, Shauna, Tori and even Max.
I wouldn’t say that "Four is necessarily thrilling or spectacular, but rather the comfort of an old friend, a new perspective on someone you knew well – a friend of a friend, bringing new information to the table. Which, again, is what I believe was the intended affect.
I recommend "Four" to existing fans of the series, for I believe they’ll get the most out of it and it may help to ease their pain – or not. I suppose it depends how fresh it is… In any case, it will certainly aid in dispelling withdrawal symptoms for a short time. - Melissa (QBD)
This was a really good read. It is from the character Four’s point of view. It was good to read his experiences and opinions. It was his life before choosing his transfer to Day**** and his relationship with his father. A definitive read after the Divergent series.
