Jeremy, Christopher and Isabel live on a farm. Their mother has to work harder and longer hours than she ever did when the children's father was alive, so when the three children discover their pet Saxony duck, Hildegarde, is missing, they set off on their own to find the thieves . . . and Hildegarde.
The trail finally leads them to Wolf's Wildlife Wonders show, only to find Hildegarde is now on exhibit. Wolf and Tony are smugglers, capturing native birds for illegal sale overseas, and they don't want anyone ruining their operation.
All good plans can go astray and the children find this out to their cost . . . Can Hildegarde be rescued?
