Laurel Kane does not believe in love. She used to but she's been looking for "The One" and at thirty-five, she's concluded there is no such thing. Which is why she finds herself arguing constantly, about the irrelevance of love when searching for a spouse, with the gorgeous man, known as the coffee-Buddha, the local coffee vendor. As the editor and writer of a tabloid paper, Laurel finds that their weekly debates would make for an interesting column and they decide to publicly set out to prove each other wrong.
Through a series of misguided and comical dating scenarios, Laurel attempts to find a life partner with a proper and practical system, but coffee-Buddha is determined to show Laurel that romance is still alive.
