More and more people are turning to in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) and other assisted reproductive technologies as a solution to infertitlity, or as an alternative to the restrictions of traditional conception.
Australia has been at the forefront of IVF research and development since its inception in the 1970s and the major Australian IVF research facilities have claimed a number of world firsts.
Author Dr Karin Hammarberg is an expert in IVF, having been spent over 20 years as a midwife, then clinician and researcher in the field.
