The Spinner was a petty crook and a blackmailer, picking up information in New York's sleazier bars, but that didn't give someone the right to bash his head in, throw him in the river and walk away. At least not according to Matt Scudder's code of honour.
Spinner left Scudder an envelope with three stories inside, three names whose owners may have murdered the blackmailer: Henry Prager has been paying for his youngest daughter's fatal mistake, Beverly Etheridge for her uptown reputation and Ted Huysendahl to keep her perversions private. Which one was desperate enough to silence the Spinner for good?
