Three women are reunited and forced to face their problems on the deathbed of a much-loved and extraordinary woman....
Having left her small Irish coastal town where she grew up‚ Lola is now very much a New Yorker. She's big and beautiful and runs a model agency for plus-sized women. But she's just broken one of her cardinal rules and has fallen for a married man and now it's make or break time.
Her cousin Jane works for a charity in Dublin and is determinedly single. Outwardly happy‚ she has a lot of darkness in her closet‚ but thinks it's all carefully packed away until she meets a person from her past and is plunged into all the awfulness of her teens.
The girls' aunt Beth is finding it impossible to move on after her husband left her for another woman. She's wonders how on earth she can start over again in her 50s.
Then suddenly the girls are forced to forget their personal problems and come together. Lynne‚ the family matriarch‚ is ill‚ possibly dying. Arriving in the dramatically beautiful seaside town where they all once lived‚ they are shocked and puzzled. Lynne keeps asking for Jamie. Begging for him. But nobody knows who Jamie is. Eventually‚ the three women stumble across Lynne's diary and are taken back to her life during WW2 when she was a nurse in London. Through Lynne's experiences and words‚ they see that life is full of choices‚ pain and opportunity‚ and somehow‚ they realize we can't choose who we fall in love with‚ but we can choose how we move on in life...
