Not quite a history of the Gold Coast, this book recreates something of the atmosphere of the past - a past rapidly being forgotten as "the Coast" develops into one of Australia's most populous urban areas outside the capital cities, where business suits are increasingly more evident than board shorts, and "tourist shops" now sport large signs in Japanese and Korean. The photographs are drawn from the extensive collection of the State Library.
