Part memoir, part master class by one of the bestselling authors of all time, this superb volume is a revealing and practical view of the writer's craft, comprising the basic tools of the trade every writer must have. King's advice is grounded in the vivid memories from childhood through his emergence as a writer, from his struggling early career to his widely reported, near-fatal accident in 1999 - and how the inextricable link between writing and living spurred his recovery. There is a reason why Stephen King is one of the bestselling writers in the world, ever. Described in the Guardian as 'the most remarkable storyteller in modern American literature', Stephen King writes books that draw you in and are impossible to put down.

Stephen King's "On Writing" is a memoir -come- manifesto from one of best selling author's of all time. King's advice is grounded and honest; from the struggles of his early writing days to how writing helped his recovery after a near-fatal accident. Stephen's basic tools are as helpful as any university lecture, and it's hard not to want to begin writing the moment you finish reading this. - Emily (QBD)

You don't have to be a writer to love On Writing. The first half of the book consists of King's memoir, and shows the reader a fascinating insight into the colourful life of one of the world's most prolific authors. The way he writes draws you in, as though you're reading a gripping work of fiction. Part two provides brilliant advice for writers from all levels of expertise, and you'll definitely find some gems to consider regardless of whether or not you're a fan of King's fiction. I recommend On Writing for anyone looking to improve their writing, or anyone who simply loves an inspirational memoir. - Charlotte (QBD)
