Fiona Byrne is a woman with a troubled past. Sold into unsavoury conditions at 15, she became an infamous courtesan, but soon fled to live with a band of outlaws and thieves. Years later, Fiona escapes from this underworld and, intent on living a normal life, opens a sewing shop in the guise of a plump and uninteresting widow.
However, her plans are thwarted by the arrival of Braden de Cantor, a man of justice who has recently been named an outlaw himself. He has tracked the infamous "Crimson Lady" to this shop and resolved to blackmail her into helping him find his foster-sister who has suffered the same fate.
