Through extensive interviews with RAAF veterans, writer and artist Jim Turner has collected some of the most extraordinary and dramatic tales in the history of Australia's air service. Tales of bravery, humour, luck and tragedy from WWII to Vietnam are each illustrated with an original painting of an RAAF aircraft in action.
'RAAF at War' was not written to glorify war, but as an attempt to record the feelings and experiences of young Australians at war. Mostly in their late teens or early 20s, they were working on farms, in shops or in offices when they answered the call, putting their lives on the line when their country needed them.
