Jamie is baffled. Throughout the town, toys are being broken - teddies' eyes are going missing, puppets' strings are tangled, and the finger of blame seems to point at Jamie. Then he meets Mr Pratchett, the toy mender, who tells him the tale of the monstrous Toy Breaker - a hideous creature fuelled by jealousy who roamed children's rooms before Christmas in times gone past, breaking anything, and everything which was loved.
Could the Toy Breaker be back? If he is to clear his name, Jamie has to find out . . .
