Sophie reads tarot cards in Sydney's Kings Cross and London's Camden Market. With her camera she documents the sex life of a terraced house in inner-city Sydney, and photogrpahs dark, looming shapes that hover above north London canals. Her mother is an ambitious publisher, willing to nurture authors and her own reputation, but not the daughter she has chosen to raise alone. She even refuses to reveal the errant father's name; all Sophie knows is that her father is an author once published by her mother. From the false glamour of London's literary scene to the frightening promise of New York, Sophie's search ends at a nowhere railway station on the Hudson River.
