William Henry Ogilvie was born in Kelso, Scotland and came to Australia in 1889. During his three year stay in Australia he was a drover, horse-breaker and bush worker. He was a great mate of Harry "Breaker" Morant and they broke horses together before Ogilvie returned to Scotland in 1901. His numerous books of verse reflect the culture and landscape of the country he came to know and love.
