These fascicles contain many new exercises, arranged carefully for self-instruction, together with detailed answers.

The Art of Computer Programming is commonly agreed to be the most influential work ever written on computer programming. Dr. Knuth started work on it in 1962, and has projected that it will ultimately comprise seven volumes. Volumes 1-3 are currently available. Because people have been patiently waiting for Volume 4 for years now, as Dr. Knuth is satisfied that pieces of Volume 4 are ready for the public, he has been releasing them as individual bound books called 'fascicles.' In April 2009 Fascicle 1 will be released, and Fascicles 0-4 of Volume 4 will all be available. This set is simply those five fascicles shrinkwrapped together, with a suggested list price offering customers a $10 discount for purchasing them together. Now that people can read right through from the beginning of Volume 4 we expect increased interest in the fascicles. We anticipate that once Dr. Knuth is finished with Fascicle 5, we will gather Fascicles 0-5 together to be bound in a single hardcover, as the first third of Volume 4. Once that happens, this shrinkwrapped bundle will be obsolete. Until then, this bundle will be the best way for fans of Dr. Knuth to obtain all the fascicles of Volume 4 currently available.
