The Fight For Hill 809 focuses on the days-long battle by the elite Long Range Patrol element of the 101st Airborne "Screaming Eagles" during the Vietnam War. Often chronicling the action in hour-by-hour detail, the author explores one of the most daring rescue operations that occurred during the Vietnam War. It takes place in the A Shau Valley in April, 1971. In addition to an indepth study of the battle and rescue of cut off and wounded Rangers, the author, a Ranger himself from the unit, provides backstory on the Long Range Patrol and their missions. AUTHOR: Charles Reilly is a combat veteran of the Vietnam War. He served as a U.S. Army Ranger with the 101st Airborne Division (Screaming Eagles) from October 1970 to August 1971. During that time, he participated in many dangerous missions and saw significant action in the A Shau Valley, Khe Sanh and the Ruong Ruong Valley in the I Corps Province of Vietnam near the DMZ. For the past several years, he has been a Unit Director for the 75th Ranger Regiment Association. He is a former union official for the United Steelworkers of America (USWA) and is the author of two novels, "Shenanigan" (1998) and "Through a Dark Passage" (2001). 16 colour, 16 b/w illustrations
