Fiona Palmer was raised in Pingaringm, her parents being contractors who carted grain and fertiliser for farmers. The majority of her childhood weekends were spent on farms, with her two cousins Tammy and Sandy, and her younger brother Chad.Fiona is a third generation speedway driver, racing cars from the age of 16 right up until she was pregnant with her first child. After doing odd jobs, rouseabouting, tractor driving and working on the CBH bins, she went to Alexander College for a secretarial course. It was while running the local shop in Pingaring in 2006 that she began writing. This began Fiona's writing career, as 'The Family Farm' was published in 2010, and 'Heart of Gold', 'The Road Home' and her most revent novel, 'The Sunburnt Country', have followed.
