Instead of mourning the recent loss of her parents, Cairn is busy trying to defend her sanity to the large conglomerate that she works for--Hanford-Merriton--and avoid being forced into medical leave. She's been hallucinating--seeing visions of a young woman in mid-19th Century clothing. But Cairn's not so sure that they really are hallucinations; after all there's a strange man lurking around her home and she's receiving threatening phone calls. Resolved to seek out the cause of her visions, she finds herself in a small town named Gideon, Illinois. Two hundred years ago, a witch was burned at the stake with consequences more terrible than anyone could have imagined, ones that still have power today.
