In March 2018, Fr Tony Coote was diagnosed with motor neurone disease. His illness progressed at a rapid rate and just three months later Fr Tony found himself confined to a wheelchair. Now, he is slowly losing the power of speech. Yet despite living with this devastating illness, Fr Tony refuses to let it change his faith, his spirituality or the way he approaches life. He continues to say mass at his parish in south Dublin, sharing his unwavering hope and belief in life and his powerful faith with the people in his community.
In the summer of 2018 Fr Tony, who through his life has travelled the world helping people through charity work, undertook a pilgrimage called 'Walk While You Can' a journey from Donegal to Cork in his wheelchair, despite knowing that it would hasten the progression of his illness. His aim was to raise 250,000 for MND support and research. To date, he has raised 500,000, with that amount still rising.
In this honest, inspiring and life-affirming book, Fr Tony explores his journey, examining his relationship with spirituality, human resilience amidst frustration and sadness, and his firm belief that life is fragile and should be treasured, even - and especially - in difficult times.
