Miles Franklin is the renowned author of My Brilliant Career published in 1901. Her life took her to such diverse places as the USA, England, and the Scottish Women's Hospital at Ostrovo in the Serbian campaigns of 1917-18 and finally back to Sydney in 1932. She was also involved in the early Australian feminist movement. Miles franklin died in 1954. In her will she bequeathed her estate to establish an annual literary award known as The Miles Franklin Award.
