Christopher Lawford had his moment of clarity on February 17, 1986 when he realized that he'd hit the point in his addiction where he had to surrender. That there was no lower he could go and he didn't want to die. With this moment etched indelibly in his consciousness, Christopher realized he wasn't alone in experiencing the one, undeniable point in his life where his humiliation, his vulnerability, his realization of what he had become was so acute that there was only one way out--and up. He set out to gather stories of these moments from friends and strangers; celebrities and unknown heroes; men and women; all of whom had in common this one turning point in their lives. Their stories are here. They talk about their addictions and about the moment when they hit bottom and the ways in which that moment has transformed their lives. As they tell their own stories, they shed light not only on their own journeys but also on the journey we all take as human beings, looking to make sense of our world.
