Inspired by true events, a graphic novel examines life on the streets of war-torn Iraq, raising questions about the meaning of liberation through the experiences of four lions who escaped from the Baghdad Zoo during a raid.
Pride of Baghdad PART 2
I have to admit that a Graphic Novel based around a group of lions did give me Lion King flashbacks, but Brian K Vaughan can do no wrong. Right from the start you are invested in the characters, and right up to the end you are with them trying to escape, wanting them to reach safety. Niko Henrichon also provides a wonderful visual backdrop to a very bleak topic. As reviewed by 99sm

Pride of Baghdad PART 1
War from a new perspective. Knowing only captivity, Ali experiences freedom for the first time after his home is blown apart. With his mother and two others, Ali embarks on an adventure which soon turns into a terrifying ordeal as they face the darker side of their captures. Trapped amidst an active war zone, there is no where to hide from the brutality. It's kill or be killed. Based on the true story of four African lions set loose after the bombing of the Baghdad Zoo in the Iraq War, Pride of Baghdad tries to expose you to the feelings experienced by frightened animals tossed out of their safe enclosures and injected straight into a war zone.
