Cassandra is a ghost chick from way back, a Shade committed only to living the high life. But when a strange wind starts sweeping along the coast and through the city, Cassandra is unwillingly drawn into the search for its source.
Together with the Shades Nathan and Shine, Cassandra discovers that the wind comes from the Shadow world and carries with it a disease that infects the shadows of living things. Then through the chaos comes the Night Beast, a shadowy creature whose very presence seems to fracture both time and space. To destroy the Beast, Cassandra must confront her own past and battle the dangerous forces carried to her on the violent wind.
