A $49 personal database application from Apple and FileMaker made exclusively to harness the new features of Mac OS X. This is the iDatabase - the database for the rest of us! It uses the interface elements that have become familiar to Mac users with iPhoto, iDVD, Pages, Numbers, and Keynote, and it has the performance and features expected from FileMaker. It leaves behind the artificiality of a rows x columns spreadsheet and the complexity of a database; placing them all behind the scenes.
This book starts with tutorials of how to use the built-in Bento libraries, which has the advantage of presenting Bento's interface, as well as what comes ready to use in the box. Then the book moves on to expanding those libraries into productive projects, and, finally, to creating new projects from scratch. Each chapter presents a project that is designed first of all for practical use, but secondarily to illustrate one or more Bento features. By the end of the book, a wide variety of projects have been presented, and all the Bento features will have been explored. The last chapter, Quickies, builds on this with brief (1-2 page) descriptions of further projects you can build. Quickies is designed to be expandable with user-provided Quickies on the book's Web site.
