After battling a demon in a cavern below the sands of South Australia, unlikely wizard John B. Stewart and his companions travel to the centre of the continent, seeking a holiday, to rest and recover. Instead, they find themselves looking for a missing archaeologist. They run into a bike gang, a corrupt lawyer, a thug in police uniform, a deadly snake, a recalcitrant camel, and ancient mysteries.
John B. and Wilko renew acquaintance with a former colleague who is more dangerous than they suspect. Finally they confront a madman who believes human sacrifice will give him the powers of a god - and he might be right.
When even the elements are thrown against them, can John B.'s magic be enough to save them?
