MAKING MY PLACE tells the story of how an Australian picture book classic became a television series, soon to screen across the nation.
MY PLACE, the original picture book by Nadia Wheatley and Donna Rawlins, was first published in 1987 and won the CBCA Book of the Year Award. The book takes the reader back into the past, as it depicts the history of one particular piece of land in Sydney from 1788 to 1988 through the stories of the various children who have lived there.
In 2009, the TV series MY PLACE, based on the original picture book, will screen on ABC television. In this new book, Nadia Wheatley looks at how the original book came about and how the television series has developed. Nadia interviews producer Penny Chapman, director Jess Hobbs, scriptwriter Leah Purcell, actors, make-up artists and more. The book will also be filled with stunning photographs showing the making of the television series.
