'Angel Mine' is a novel which moves continents and centuries in an attempt to unravel the meaning - if any can be found - of the death of a young child in a children's asylum in the late 1800s.
Divided into three parts, the novel begins when Helen, an archaeologist from Sydney, finds a tiny skeleton and a strange amulet in a cemetery dig. Her search for their meaning forces her to explore her own life and the personal histories which make us who we are. With her, we learn about the lives of Mary, Thomas and other asylum children, before past and present come together as Helen's search for the lost Mary takes her from her relationship and from Sydney, to Ireland, Boston and places within herself she never knew existed.
