Stosh is shocked when his longtime enemy, Bobby Fuller, begs him to go back in time to meet his great-great grandfather, Jim Thorpe. An Olympic champion, Thorpe was stripped of his medals because it was discovered that he had played semi-pro ball a few years before the Games. Thorpe went on to play professional baseball and football, but he could never achieve that fame again. Stosh and Fuller go back to early twentieth century New York to save Jim's reputation. Among other topics, including racism, Dan Gutman brings up some interesting points about professionals vs. amateurs in the Olympics.
Ages 10-14.
