Aramis has inherited a powerful stone from his archaeologist grandfather. If it is joined with its missing staff, it will confer
untold powers on its owner. The wily bear Professor Taras steals the stone and Aramis and his friend Jock pursue Taras and his cronies, Chiron the gibbon and Nefertiti the cat, across a wasteland known as the Wain, where they confront the Ghost Wolves and witness the destruction of the city of the Elmasen.
