Continuing the series that began with The Birchbark House and The Game of Silence, The Porcupine Year follows a life-changing year for Omakayas. It's 1852, and Omakayas is now twelve years old. She and her family must move because white settlers are moving to the Island of the Golden Breasted Woodpecker. Together they set off on a harrowing journey that takes them from the shores of Lake Superior westward, in search of a new home.
