Two women - friends, and former flatmates - engage in their respective love affairs. One promising a bright future and one leading toward disastrous end. Harriet Rose is a photographer just beginning to gain recognition for her work. A travel fellowship brings her to visit her best friend, Anne Gordon, in Switzerland.
