This is the story of two stories separated by 100 years of history, two stories intricately intertwined.

In 1900 Lady Anna Winterbourne travels to Egypt where she falls in love with Sharif, an Egyptian Nationalist utterly committed to his country's cause. Isabel Parkman, an American divorcee and a descendant of Anna and Sharif, is in love with Omar-al-Ghamrawi, a New York-Egyptian who is also a distant relative. Isabel goes to Egypt, taking with her an old family trunk, inside which are found notebooks and journals which reveal Anna and Sharif's secrets. Together with Omar's sister, Amal, they piece together this story of a hundred years before.
