Feline P. I. Joe Grey and his pals are back solving crime in the 19th installment of the enchanting series. Joe Grey and Dulcie are going to be parents! Joe Grey and Dulcie grieve for the old yellow cat as Misto's life draws to an end. Though sadness fills the hearts of his friends, Misto tells them that a bright new era awaits him. He predicts, as well, that among the kittens Dulcie and Joe are expecting will be a little calico returned from the distant past, with the exact same markings and the look in her eyes as devilish as Joe Grey himself. As the pair awaits the birth of their babies, Kate Osborne succeeds in buying the old Pamillon estate; and Ryan Flannery begins construction of a new cat shelter as part of their volunteer rescue project; while at Molena Point PD, patrols are increased to apprehend a mugger who preys on the elderly. Then one of the several victims dies. And it is now up to the cats, and the police, begin to find links between the victims. When three kittens are born, the little calico looks just as Misto predicted, as if she has indeed come back to the world from ancient times and myth. Now as the baby cats' birth intertwines with darker events, the mugger's motive is revealed; when at last the killer is identified and apprehended, Joe and Dulcie, Kit and Pan, rejoice.
