Suffering amnesia after being battered unconscious, the new patient resists attempts to identify him as a philosophy professor named Rene Quite. Indeed, convinced it was Quite who tried to murder him, he sets out to hunt the man down.
This leads him to a decaying seaside resort whose distractions include the deep-frozen corpse of an adolescent boy, a Punch and Judy clock that rebels against its own mechanism, a man condemned to forever repeat a meaningless message . . .
