Marie, the heroine of Une Aventure Dangereuse, has been the countess of Lacaune for three years following her grandfather's resignation because of his Cathar religion. The powerful and greedy count of Brassac and his cousin, Jerme, an emissary of Pope Innocent III, are determined to steal not only the fief of Lacaune, but also it's legendary treasure. Yvain, the seneschal of Lacaune, must use all of his cleverness and skill to thwart the enemies of Marie with the help of Jean and Eugenie, who have been constant and faithful supporters since the beginning of Une Aventure Dangereuse. Additionally our heroes must help the Cathars living in Lacaune to escape detection and death at the hands of the Pope's crusading army. The path to victory is difficult and dangerous, and the outcome is not certain.
