Twenty years after the murder of Stefan and Miranda Harkness, DCI Matilda Darke is tasked with re-opening the cold case. Following a nine month absence from work, she is a shadow of her former self, and must fight her inner demons to solve the case. She is up against her rival, Acting DCI Ben Hales, who will do anything possible to solve the case, including intimidation of fragile sole witness, Jonathan Harkness. By the time the case is solved, Matilda, Ben, and Jonathan's lives will have changed forever.
