Six years ago in Uzbekistan, journalist Charlie Davis was wounded when the government fired on a group of protestors he was covering on assignment. He and his pregnant wife, Julie, barely escaped with their lives.
Now, living in Santa Monica with their two children, with Charlie covering local politics for the Los Angeles Times, they've traded in their lives of adventure for a cushy, suburban existence. But Charlie still carries with him worries for his family that are rooted in that dangerous moment years ago.
It started out as a simple day trip. Julie was to take their two children to Disneyland, while Charlie stayed home. She'd been away on business and now would have a day with the kids to relax. They were just going to Disneyland. Nothing bad ever happens there.
But Julie never makes it home that night. She is kidnapped from her car on the Los Angeles freeway, with their terrified children the only witnesses. As Charlie begins to investigate, he finds evidence of a secret life that she has kept from him all these years-and that has come back to terrorize them all.
Reminiscent of the domestic terrain of Harlan Coben and David Baldacci and the espionage of Robert Ludlum, OUT OF RANGE is scintillating suspense of international intrigue and the devastating secrets in a marriage, a complex puzzle full of mystery and misdirection.
